Dialysis
Under the medical
direction of a nephrologist, a physician specializing in the treatment
of kidney disease, Southside Community Hospital is equipped to offer
kidney dialysis. Dialysis is the process of removing excess water and
waste products from the blood by filtering. Hemodialysis and and
peritoneal dialysis, treatments for kidney failure, are administered
to dialysis patients. Hemodialysis is also offered to people with
sudden drops in kidney function (acute renal failure). Acute renal
failure may lead to permanent loss of kidney function; however, it is
often reversible.
