Celiac Support Group To Meet

SCH Nutrition Director and Dieticians will be available to answer questions regarding celiac patients
The Southside Virginia, Farmville Area Gluten Intolerance Group, a support group for people with celiac disease and their families and loved ones, will hold its next monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Private Dining Room at the Southside Community Hospital (SCH), 800 Oak St., Farmville.
Celiac disease, often initially diagnosed as irritable bowl syndrome, is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats.
For further information please call Milt Weisman, support group coordinator and Certified Resource Unit, CSA/USA, at (434) 223-7901 or the Staff Development Department at SCH at (434) 315-2590. All interested persons are invited to attend.
