Annual Meals on Wheels / Madeline's House Benefit
The Annual Meals on Wheels / Madeline's House Benefit  Fourth Annual Chefs' Food Festival Is March 11 Festival To Fund MOW & Madeline's House The Chefs' Food Festival 2006 "Festa Italiana," scheduled for March 11, will benefit not only SCOPE/Meals On Wheels, but the Southside Center for Violence Prevention as well. Attendees at the fourth annual event will still help Meals On Wheels in the Farmville area, but also Madeline's House, the Piedmont Crisis Center and other programs sponsored by SCVP. "By joining forces with the folks from Southside Center for Violence Prevention, we hope to make the 2006 CFF better than ever," said SCOPE/MOW coordinator Hoke Currie. "Supporters of both organizations can join together also and help two great causes at once." All profits from the 2006 CFF will be split 50-50 by SCOPE/MOW and SCVP. Boards of both organizations have agreed to support the joint venture. This year's CFF will feature fine Italian cuisine cooked by local Chefs, and will be held at the Longwood University Dorrill Dining Hall. Music will be furnished by Hep Kat, a popular local group whose specialty is jazz. With ARAMARK Dining Services at Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College providing title sponsorship, the festival will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 11 p.m. Attendance will be limited to 400 guests. SCVP Provides Variety of Services Responding to the cries of victims of domestic and sexual violence, Southside Center for Violence Prevention (Madeline's House) was established in 1999 to meet the need for immediate help, safety, and emergency housing away from the offender. SCVP provides the following services: 24 hour Crisis Hotline, shelter, food & clothing in a loving and supportive family environment; personalized Case Management, Support groups, Court Advocacy; Referrals; children's activities; job seeking skills; follow-up care and outreach into schools and communities. Since Southside Center for Violence Prevention officially opened in July of 1999, more than 800 women and children have been assisted. Volunteers offer their services and knowledge to help us in various tasks either at the shelter or at the Thrift Stores located in Farmville and South Hill. Meals On Wheels Delivers SCOPE/Meals On Wheels will celebrate its fifth birthday in January. The non-profit organization delivers nutritious meals to homebound elderly and disabled adults in Farmville, Prince Edward County and parts of Cumberland, Buckingham and Lunenburg Counties. SCOPE/MOW has delivered more than 90,000 meals since the program began. In many cases, SCOPE/MOW volunteers are the only people to check on these folks every day. Because many shut-ins who require home delivered meals are not able to pay the full cost, the need for meal service outpaces the ability to generate funding. With the help of the Chefs' Food Festival and the financial support of friends in the community, SCOPE/Meals On Wheels will ensure that the homebound in our area do not go hungry.
